Special exhibition for the 75th birthday of Martin Dannecker. Curated by Patsy l’Amour laLove.
Gay, intellectual and militant – the sexologist and gay activist Martin Dannecker is a homosexual man of a new type. Wearing his flamboyant vinyl coat he joined the student movement in the 1960s, shook the gays out of their sleep in 1971 together with Rosa von Praunheim and caused an ongoing discussion about homosexuality in cooperation with Reimut Reiche in 1974.
„Faszination Sex“ accompanies the propably most important German theorist on homosexuality of the post-war era through personal stages of his life from a rural family in the Black Forest to his commie gay activism in Frankfurt to grueling debates around AIDS. Together with his fellow travelers, he provides insight into his passion for psychoanalysis, the Frankfurt School of critical theory and critical thinking.
Martin Dannecker stands for progressive sexology, materialist analyses on homosexuality, uncompromising sexual politics and passionate gayness as well as a theory of difference that should not become a museum piece. It is therefore all the more important to extensively indulge in his fascination for the sexual.
