On December 8th, 2002, the Schwules Museum could mark its 17th birthday by opening the new floor for the public. The first display in the new space is called String of Pearls shows an overview of exhibits from the own collection as well as from two Berlin private collections. The expansion has come solely through the commitment of private individuals. Especially the friend and supporter of the Schwules Museum, Christian Adolf Isermeyer generously remembered the institution in his will and so helped to realize the project. In due time there will be mounted a permanent exhibition with an overview of the history of homosexuality, hopefully with the support from the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin.
