New in the Art Collection: Photographs by GagBall (Sebastián Gherrë)

5. March 2025

In February 2025, photographer Sebastián Gherrë visited Berlin and the Schwules Museum for the first time. On this occasion, he gave us a total of 17 original prints from a photographic series that he developed in Chile between 2017 and 2024 under the pseudonym GagBall.

The photographs document artistic, erotic and/or sexual encounters. Originally started in the early 2000s as a documentary project to photograph his sexual partners (with their consent, of course), Gherrë later discovered art photography through Nan Goldin’s portraits and reinterpreted his own work.

Archive staff member Romain Pinteaux and assistant researcher Jessica Walter showed the photographer around the archive and accepted the donation for the Schwules Museum’s art collection. “We are delighted with this first donation from Chile for the archive! Jessica and I were delighted with this beautiful encounter, which once again makes our archive tangible as a place full of affects, where the sense of belonging and friendships go beyond the physical space.” (Romain Pinteaux)
