We’re very excited to introduce our new intern Recep Ozdas from Turkey. Recep will be working with Schwules Museum for the next three months while preparing to write his PhD thesis at Freie Universität. He will focus his thesis on the constructions of queer space and political participation.
Recep came to the Schwules Museum by means of the recent exhibition colony which we brought to Berlin from Istanbul as a sign of solidarity with the Turkish queer community. The exhibition ended in April with lots of positive reviews and mentions in the Turkish queer community and media. This is what drew Recep’s attention to our institution.
Recep is particularly interested in ‘queer memory’. His plan is to bring novels and novellas from queer Turkish authors to our archive, as well as LGBTQI* magazines and publications from Turkey. Recep also hopes to build a network that connects Schwules Museum more closely with Turkish organizations within Germany, such as GLADT and Kaos GL, but also with Kurdish queer organizations from inside Turkey.
We’re thrilled to have Recep on board and we’re looking forward to seeing the results of his time with us.
