Obituary for Jan-Claus Müller (1962-2025)

16. January 2026

The Schwules Museum commemorates its former board member Jan-Claus Müller, who passed away in December 2025.

Born in 1962 and raised in Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Lower Saxony, Jan-Claus finally came to Berlin after a few detours. Since 2010, he has been volunteering in the museum’s exhibition and café area and was elected to the board of directors, also on a voluntary basis, in 2014. In this role, he remained true to his roots: he was responsible for supervising the museum’s numerous volunteers, organized training courses, and was also the contact person for personnel issues. Jan-Claus also played a leading role in organizing and supervising our stand at the Lesbisch-Schwules Stadtfest and the Lange Nacht der Museen.

Jan-Claus’s main occupation until recently was in the field of addiction and psychotherapy. In addition to his job and volunteer work, he was a regular at the Olympic Stadium with a season ticket for Hertha BSC and could often be found enjoying the city’s cultural life – whether at the theater, the Berlin Philharmonic, or the cabaret. When he wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, he liked to return to northern Lower Saxony or his beloved North Sea and Baltic Sea.

The collaboration with Jan-Claus ended in 2022. The Schwules Museum is grateful to him for his many years of commitment and extends its thoughts to his loved ones.
