A Discussion with Russia’s most famous Drag Queen, Zaza.
The event is presented by the Russian artist group QUADRAT in cooperation with the Schwules Museum* and MÄNNER Magazine.
In celebration of the 25-year anniversary of the partnership between Moskow and Berlin, Berlin drag star Ikenna Amaechi has invited Moskow drag stars, Zaza Napoli and Aysa Aseeva, to the first German-Russian drag gala in Berlin.
They will perform together at the Wintergarten on October 10th to showcase Russian drag performance, which is popular (as always) despite Putin’s so called “Homo-Propaganda-Laws” of 2013. Today, people can experience Zaza anytime in theaters, clubs, and at open air festivals. Zaza’s club-show was legendary during the Sochi Olympic games, so much so that it was even advertised on television. Was this just a cunning ruse Putin used to divert attention from growing homophobia in the country? Should the public presence of drag performers make the problems of the queer community forgotten?
On Sunday, October 9th at 4pm there will be a discussion in the Schwules Museum* with Zaza herself, where we can attempt to answer these questions and more. Before the discussion, Zaza will view the “Travestie” collection of the Schwules Museum* archive with head of the archive, Wolfgang Cortjaens. Afterwards there will be a discussion where we can explore the connections and differences between drag shows in homophobic postwar Germany under §175 and Putin’s modern day Russia.

Заза Наполи приезжает в Берлин и придёт в гости к нам в Schwules Museum*! В воскресенье, 9 октября, в 16.00 в кафе при музее состоится встреча с Зазой, где мы будем рады видеть в том числе и русскоговорящую публику. На встрече мы обсудим с Зазой современное состояние дрэг-культуры в России и посмотрим, существуют ли параллели между жизнью дрэг-квин в путинской России и гомофобной послевоенной Германии с её печально знаменитым параграфом 175. На дискуссию вход свободный.
Заза приезжает в Берлин по приглашению своей берлинской коллеги Икенны Амечи, чтобы совместно отпраздновать 25-летие партнёрства между Германией и Россией на первом российско-немецком дрэг-гала в Берлине. Заза, Икенна и Ася Асеева, также знаменитая российская драг-артистка, выступят вместе 10 октября в Винтергартене.
Встреча и выступление организованы российской арт-группой “Квадрат” совместно с Schwules Museum* и журналом MÄNNER.
