The Schwules Museum cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition A Heart That Beats – Queer Ukrainian Art in Focus! This new show is the first group exhibition to present queer art from Ukraine in the historical and political context of queer communities before, during and after the country’s independence. While international attention is currently focused on Ukraine, art and queer perspectives in particular are often left out. The exhibition focuses on queer artistic voices – voices that tell of invisibility, resistance, loss, belonging and survival.
Curated by Anton Shebetko and Maria Vtorushyna, the exhibition aims not only to make marginalization visible, but above all to emphasize the vitality, resilience and creative strength of queer Ukrainian culture. Many of the works on display are being shown in Germany for the first time.
An introduction by the curators will take place at 19:00, in English spoken language. Admission is free, as is the champagne reception – while stocks last!
