We invite you to the vernissage of the exhibition “Coming to Terms with the Past: Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents in the Name of Emancipation” on Thursday, October 5 at 7 pm, at the Schwules Museum Berlin.
The joint exhibition “Coming to Terms with the Past: Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents in the Name of Emancipation” by Schwules Museum and Archiv der deutschen Jugendbewegung is self-critical examination of problematic legacies in both institutions’ collections. Schwules Museum (SMU) and Archiv der deutschen Jugendbewegung (AdJb) are central places of the commemoration of entangled, if different, emancipatory movements. Yet both archives contain evidence of the justification of sexualized violence against children and youth in documents and artifacts.
We would be pleased to celebrate with you the opening of this very important and very special exhibition for both institutions.
With this vernissage the curators Birgit Bosold (SMU), Dr. Susanne Rappe-Weber (Archiv der deutschen Jugendbewegung, AdJb), Dr. Tino Heim & Dr. Volker Woltersdorff would like to thank all those who supported them in advance with critical advice and tangible action and especially all those who shared their stories, experiences and positions with them and the audience.
From October 6, the show will run until February 26, 2024.
