The Gay Museum is pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Strategies of Resilience – Insights into the Life of Eberhardt Brucks” on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 7 pm.
The exhibition offers unique insights into the life of Eberhardt Brucks (1917-2008), whose biographical legacy is preserved in the Schwules Museum. On display is the remarkable resilience of a gay man who knew how to find loopholes and create spaces of joy, partnerships and physical self-empowerment in times of persecution and social oppression. His creative and playful strategies protected him and made him capable of acting – an example that continues to shine in the queer present.
In addition to the objects from Brucks’ estate, contemporary artistic works by Genesis Kahveci, Florian Hetz, Sarnt Utamachote and Rein Vollenga are presented, which reinterpret the resilient aspects of Brucks’ life.
The exhibition was curated by neo seefried and is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
The Schwules Museum is looking forward to an inspiring evening full of insights and encounters. The event will take place in German spoken language, with translation into German sign language. Admission: free.
Exhibition period: October 18, 2024 – April 28, 2025
