Die Desinformationskampagne von KGB und Stasi
Bis heute hält sich die Verschwörungstheorie, dass AIDS ursprünglich in den USA als biologischer Kampfstoff entwickelt wurde. Großen Anteil an der Verbreitung dieses Gerüchts hatten der ehemalige sowjetische Geheimdienst KGB und die Stasi – so eine neue Studie der Stasi-Unterlagen-Behörde. Die Historiker Dr. Douglas Selvage und Christopher Nehring zeigen auf, dass die USA mit einer groß angelegten Desinformationskampagne international in Verruf gebracht werden sollten. Die Stasi trug ihren Teil dazu bei, indem sie für die Verbreitung der Thesen einer „wissenschaftlichen Studie“ ostdeutscher Forscher im westlichen Ausland sorgte. So entstand ein Zyklus von Falschinformationen, der sich bis weit über das Ende des Kalten Krieges hinaus hielt.

The AIDS Conspiracy – a KGB/Stasi disinformation campaign
To this day, the conspiracy theory persists that AIDS was originally developed in the USA for biological warfare. A new study from the Stasi Records Agency reveals that the Soviet intelligence agency, the KGB, and the Stasi were instrumental in spreading this rumor.
Historians Dr. Douglas Selvage and Christopher Nehring demonstrate that an ambitious disinformation campaign was intended to bring the USA into international disrepute. The Stasi did its part by facilitating the dissemination of the theses of a “scientific study” by East German researchers in the West. This generated a cycle of false information that would long outlast the Cold War.
