Surviving Voices: Trans* Oral Histories

13. October 2019 16:00

Together with the National AIDS Memorial in San Francisco the Schwules Museum presents an exclusive preview of selected video interviews of the Surviving Voices series by the AIDS Story Project. This year’s edition focuses on the experiences of trans* people in the context of HIV and Aids, connecting the series both with the themes of the current SMU exhibition HIVstories. Living Politics and the museums’s 2019 focus on trans* politics and experiences. The screening and the following discussion aim to highlight the importance of oral histories for marginalized communities.

In this afternoon event we will first show a preview selection of the edited interviews that will have their official premiere in San Francisco later this year. After the screening, Surviving Voices’ project director Jörg Fockele will talk to Peter Rehberg (SMU’s head of archives) about oral history as an instrument of power. The audience is invited to join the discussion.

The video interviews are in English, the discussion can be held both in English and in German, depending on the audience’s preference. Tickets are 4 Euros.
