Symposium: Mein Kamerad – Die Diva

8. November 2014 10:00

In the context of this project, the Schwules Museum* is organizing a symposium at the Institut für Kulturwissenschaft (Cultural Studies Institute) at Humboldt University, Berlin on 8 November 2014.

International researchers – Jason Crouthamel (Michigan), Christoph Jahr (Berlin), Eva Krivanec (Vienna), Peter W. Marx (Cologne) and Iris Rachamimov (Tel Aviv) – take an interdisciplinary approach to the topic of gender role switching and cross-dressing in the context of theater on the front lines and at the internment camps of the First World War.

Following the trail of numerous sources, soldier’s papers, letters and postcards from the battlefield, as well as studies of clinical cases, biographies and rarely seen photographs, the invited speakers unfold the phenomena of switching clothes and diva culture amongst soldiers in war theaters across an international area.

The symposium has been realized in cooperation with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and with the kind support of the Capital Culture Fund (Haupstadtkulturfonds).

Entry is free, but we suggest to register in advance per email: symposium.kamerad.diva@freenet.de
